Together with diet and physical activity, sleep is one of the three pillars that guarantee physical well-being. Studies reveal that a large part of the population sleeps poorly, but due to the pace of life we lead, we are often unable to identify the problem and we incorporate it into our routine as if it were normal. We must not allow ourselves not to rest, we have a lot at stake.
Today we will talk about 6 clear signs that indicate that we are not getting enough sleep or that our rest is not restorative.
Difficulties in thinking clearly and making decisions. When you do not get enough rest, your concentration, mental agility, ability to process information and decision-making are affected.
Memory problems. Lack of sleep has a direct impact on memory. During the REM phase, the brain processes the information captured during the day and helps to consolidate and store it properly.
Mood swings. Our emotional capacity depends on our rest. If we sleep poorly our mood may be affected and we may experience sadness and euphoria for no reason.
Inability to handle stress. Stress is one of the most common causes of insomnia, and in turn, a consequence of it. Not getting enough sleep contributes to increased levels of stress and anxiety. It is harder for us to relax, which makes it harder for us to sleep.
Irritability and frustration. If we do not sleep well, our brain is not at 100%, some cognitive functions are affected and we are not able to solve problems with agility, which may affect us in the form of frustration and consequently irritability.
Changes in sensory perception. Not getting adequate rest can cause changes in people’s sensory perception, such as a reduction in the visual field or loss of sensitivity to emotional signals, such as facial expressions of joy or sadness.
If you experience any of these 6 signs, it is likely that your sleep is being insufficient.
