Hypersomnias
(Excessive daytime sleepiness)
Sleep pathology in adults
Excessive sleep, daytime, nighttime or both at the same time, is the second most important complaint, after insomnia, in a sleep unit.
Of physiological or pathological origin, it can have serious consequences in the short term on safety in tasks that require attention, and in the long and medium term on work and academic performance, family relationships and in general negatively affecting the patient’s quality of life.

Hypersomnia is relatively common. Its prevalence is between 4 and 12% of the general population, being somewhat more frequent even in young adults and the elderly.
