Narcolepsy
Sleep pathology in adults
It affects approximately 0.02 % of the population, i.e. 2 persons per 10,000 inhabitants. It is clinically characterized by:
- Irresistible sleep attacks that culminate in a nap, usually of short duration and refreshing.
- Cataplexy: Episodes of loss of muscle tone triggered by emotions.
- Sleep paralysis and/or hallucinations at onset or end of sleep
- Interrupted and poor quality night sleep
The sleep study shows a dream of fragmented architecture. The latency test shows a mean latency < of 5 min and REM phase in two or more of the naps.
